Helping You Heal And Move Forward Through Divorce Mediation

The Power Of Divorce Mediation

I am Joy Frank, an experienced family law attorney serving clients in Westchester County, New York, and Fairfield County, Connecticut. I have seen and experienced a full array of methods by which my clients have ended their marriages and resolved child custody disputes. After years of assisting many individuals and couples, I came to understand the value of mediation as the most sensible pathway to divorce in most cases. I now focus my law practice on this more reasonable and less contentious way.

Through divorce mediation, you and your spouse can voluntarily arrive at your own property division settlement and parenting plan. You can do this in your own timing and on your own terms. I am available to guide you through the process to the resolution that you need to move on to the next chapter of your lives.

How Mediation Works, And How It Can Benefit Your Family

Divorce mediation is adaptable to individual situations. It can be used for unmarried couples, for married couples who intend to be separated for a lengthy period or for married couples who are ready to expedite a divorce. Divorce mediation consists of three stages, namely:

  • Mediation sessions: You and your spouse will meet with a mediator for as much time as you need to reach a consensus about how you will distribute your property and co-parent your children. If you are separated but are not ready to complete your divorce yet, your process may stop or pause here once your agreements are solidified.
  • Documentation: Your mediator will put your agreements into a legal document. This document can serve as a tool for managing your resources and parenting responsibilities until your dissolution of marriage is finalized through a divorce court.
  • Filing: Once you are ready for your divorce to be finalized, your mediator can file the document with the appropriate family law court. If all goes well, you will not need to appear in court. The court will then issue a divorce decree that will incorporate your agreement.

A great many couples appreciate the cooperative, solution-focused nature of divorce mediation over litigation.
